Not All HD is Created Equally

HD standards are continually evolving. When comparing specifications, go beyond “HD” and ask what type of camera. The Sony CineAlta HDC1500R inside the Aerial Filmwork’s Cineflex V14HD contains three 2/3″ sensors. Other HD cameras may only contain one 1/4″ sensor. In addition, high-quality recording decks should be used to deliver the highest resolution signal output by the camera.

We film all of our stock footage with 3 chip cameras for digital cinema quality reproduction. We record to the Sony SRW1 record deck on HDCAM SR tape stock- the same deck used by James Cameron to film the “Avatar” movie.

True high-definition 1920 x 1080p video has 650% more information than standard definition.

Optimal Viewing

The best way to view HD video is from a Blu-ray Disc on a 1080p LCD monitor. Standard definition DVDs can also be used but the maximum width of a standard DVD is only 720 pixels.
